Interior Architecture Design

Interior designers plan space allocation, traffic flow, building services, furniture, fixtures, furnishings and surface finishes. They consider the purpose, efficiency, comfort, safety and aesthetic of interior spaces to arrive at an optimum design. They custom design or specify furniture, lighting, walls, partitions, flooring, color, fabrics and graphics to produce an environment tailored to a purpose. An interior designer often works as part of a team that may include architects, builders, project managers, engineering consultants, shop fitters, cabinet makers, furniture suppliers and materials suppliers. They may be required to organize the modification of building structures, the purchasing of materials and furnishings and the contracting and supervision of the trades people required to implement a project. Many users of interior design services only require these skills occasionally. It is common for interior designers to be employed in consulting businesses such as interior design consultancies and architectural practices. Interior Architecture is primarily focused on the structural, spatial and material transformation of existing buildings and their interiors. Considering historic preservation, time, and building performance, students of Interior Architecture engage with structure, sequence, technology, programming, lighting, color, finishes, designed objects and graphic design. The Interior Architecture program offers a focused specialization within the broader scope and tradition of Architecture. Contemporary Interior Design represents a vast territory ranging from the selection of interior furnishings and fittings to the full manipulation of interior space. Interior Architecture is an emerging profession that falls under the influence of organizational frameworks supported by both Architecture and Interior Design. Interior Design is a practice that is licensed and supported by various professional organizations including IIDA (International Interior Design Association), IFI (International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers), and ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). It explores how the interiors of buildings such as office blocks, houses, hospitals and galleries are inhabited, used and experienced. The subject also explores how interiors of buildings can be changed to meet different needs and to express different functions for example from a station multi-storey car park to a modern office block. An architect undergoes a rigorous education which includes higher mathematics and drafting. Most undergo internships before going out into the world. They must possess an understanding of buildings basic structures but also comprehend how that structure interacts with its environment.

Interior Architecture works to create vibrant spaces, using innovative and dynamic design approaches. Interior Architecture is a specialization in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) degree. Interior Architecture is applied in a descriptive language in which the architectural design or architectural language is seen as a continuation or an extension of the exterior architecture to the inside of the structure in terms of detail, scale/proportion, spatial sequence and other such architectural components. Architecture as a discipline has always been engaged in the struggle to raise human and spiritual meaning to a higher purpose and a meaningful focus for at least three millenniums. An architectural structure is an expression of cultural principles and deliberate design choices based on current technology and understandings its meaning. This is the essence of all architecture. These ideals are accomplished in the design process through a language of reduction. It is achieved through narrowing abstract notions of ideas and symbols or program to compose a unity of form, space, detail, materials, etc.
